THE LANDING 2018 ROSE
Grown on the coastal slopes overlooking the Bay of Islands, the 2018 Rose is a blend which offers great fruit intensity and vibrancy, is fresh and lively, leading to a light, dry finish of quince and florals.
Harvested from young Cabernet Franc, Merlot, and Syrah vines growing in Maroa Loam clay soils at The Landing Vineyard on the Purerua Peninsula in warm growing conditions. The grapes for this single-vineyard wine were hand-picked in excellent condition on March 16 2018.
The hand-picked fruit was combined and sent directly to the press, gently pressed, settled, and cool-fermented in stainless steel. The blend consists of 50% Cabernet Franc, 35% Merlot, and 15% Syrah.
Bright, pale pink colour, with slight purple hues and a little depth, lighter on the rim. The nose is fresh and fragrant with aromas of strawberries and lifted red florals, unfolding some fresh fermentation esters. The aromatics grow in depth and concentration with aeration. Dry to taste and light-medium bodied, the palate has restrained and elegantly soft strawberry and cherry fruit with aromatic red florals and notes of fresh fermentation esters. The flavours form a gentle core, and the wine flows along a soft line. Fresh, lacy acidity enlivens the mouthfeel, and the flavours carry to a lingering, nuanced finish.
